This man is known for incredible acting skills in offbeat movies especially if you remember his role in Life of Pi. He hails from Assam wherein he was born and brought up in a place called Goalpara in a non film background. He was the youngest among his siblings. After his schooling, he headed to Guwahati for doinghis graduation in Philosophy from the known college Borooah College in the state capital of Assam. He then got involved in acting and soon tried his luck in stand up comedy. He was soon popular of making mimicries of different Bollywood actors and thus even formed his own stand up comedy group called Bhaya Mama Group. After working as a stand up comedian for around six years, he finally headed to Delhi to join NSD (national school of drama) in the year 1990 wherein he graduated in 1993. Later he went to Drama Studio London on a scholarship from Charles Wallace India Trust to learn filmmaking and acting.
After returning India, he joined one mobile theatre group called Hengul Theatre in Assam wherein he worked for three years and then left to Delhi. He then got training under Khalid Tyabji and later went Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry to get another training from Shaupon Boshu. He later got involved in several theatre groups wherein he did some of the popular plays including Othello: A Play in Black and White in 1999 and Goodbye Desdemona, both of these plays were awarded internationally. He remained as a trainer and art director with Society for Artists and Performers in Hampi till 2007 and is a visiting faculty at Royal Conservatory of Performing Arts, Hague apart from being the faculty at NSD, New Delhi. His debut in movies was seen in Bengali movie called Iti Srikanta with Soha Ali Khan, while on TV he was seen in Jasoos Vijay. In Bollywood movies, he had shorter cameos including in Kaminey, Ishqiya and slightly bigger role in Agent Vinod.
Soon he was seen in the movie called English Vinglish wherein his performance was applauded working with Sridevi. Some of his remarkable performance was witnessed in overseas projects including The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of PI. Also, his character in Lessons in Forgetting was applauded a lot over New Jersey Independent South Asian Cine Fest. His character of Cop in Lootera was also applauded in 2013, while his upcoming movies include two English movies White Lies and Feast of Varanasi and one Assamese called Rodor Sithi. The actor is based in New Delhi, while he is married with a son.
