Ritesh Sidwani is a known face in Bollywood especially in production. He owns a film production company called Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd along with his actor and director friend Farhan Akhtar. He hails from Bombay wherein he did his schooling and college. He was born in a Sindhi family who are into a couple of businesses. After completing his education, he joined his family business called Marlex, which is one of the popular home appliances’ company. Later, he with his actor friend formed a film production company, which produced their debut film Dil Chahta Hai in 2001, which proved a turning point in his life. He is married to Dolly Sidhwani and has two kids, while his two younger siblings own an event management company and an IT firm in Bombay.
After forming his own film production company, the very first project of him and his partner Farhan Akhtar was Dil Chahta Hai featuring Aamir Khan, Akshay Khanna and Saif Ali Khan in 2001. The film was a big hit, which gave them a good launch pad in the industry. Farhan was the man to direct the movie, which was his debut film for which he was awarded with National and Filmfare award under best filmmaker category. He with his partner friend made a number of movies, which include Lakshya, Don 1 & 2, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, Rock On, Luck By Chance, etc. Some of his recently released movies include Taalash and Fukrey. The duo has a couple of upcoming movies as well, which include Dil Dhadakne Do directed by Zoya Akhtar, Raees – starring Shah Rukh Khan and even the sequel of Rock On.
Apart from the role of producer, he was also seen playing the part of creative director in Don. He and his friend has been awarded a number of awards for their movies, which include the films like Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara for the category of Best film, the best entertainer and Critics Award for Best Movie from groups like Filmfare, Screen, Apsara, Zee Cine Awards, IIFA, NDTV, etc. His films Dil Chahta Hai and Rock On also received the best feature film award at the National Awards in 2002 and 2009 respectively. He is counted among the no-non sense person in the Bollywood industry, who loves to make movies and remain confined in his work rather than entering into any controversy.
