Paoli Dam is a popular film and Bengali TV actress who was born on 4th of October 1980 in Kolkata in a typical Bengali family having the origin from Faridpur from Bangladesh. She did her schooling from Loreto School in Bowbazar and since she was a good student she also won the scholarship during her student life. She then went to Vidyasagar College and completed her BSc in Chemistry from University of Calcutta. She then headed to do her PG in chemistry from the popular college Rajabazar Science College of the University of Calcutta. She never wanted to be an actor since her childhood but had learnt classical dance and was associated with theatres since her early age. She wanted to be a pilot or a chemical researcher yet unlike any other Bengali child she took singing lessons.
Paoli Dam started with TV in 2003 wherein she acted in a couple of Bengali TV serials, which included Jibon Niye Khela for Zee Bangla and later went to do another called Tithir Atithi aired over ETV Bangla by Jishu Dasgupta, which went for six years. She also appeared in other serials including Tarpor Chand Uthalo, Sonar Harin and Jaya Dam. As per the actress she had learnt a lot from the Bengali TV, which helped her groom her career. She did her debut in Bengali films with Teen yaari Katha, which was directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha, which however remained unreleased by 2012. Hence her first film is Agnipariksha in 2006. Some of her Bengali films include Tulkalam, I Love You, Jamai Raja, Shob Charitro Kalponik, Sweetheart, Promotion, Family Album etc.
Her debut in Bollywood started with the film Hate Story, which was directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by the Bhatts. Paoli Dam played the role of Kavyah Krishna a sex worker who pulls off a caper against the top business tycoons. She got a lukewarm response for her acting, which gave her another film from the Bhatts called Ankur Arora Murder Case, which was based on a true story of a kid losing his life due to medical negligence wherein she played the character of a lawyer. Her next movie was Gangs of Ghosts wherein she played the item number in 2014, which is a comedy horror film directed by Satish Kaushik. Her upcoming Hindi film includes Yaara Sili Sili by Subash Saighal and Jee Jaan Se by Ashuu Trikha. Some of her other movies include a Konkani film called Baga Beach, which was directed by Laxmikant Shegaonkar and also tried her luck in playback singing in a Bengali film called Kaalbela in 2009.
