Nana Patekar is not at all an unknown name in B Town, who is a popular actor, filmmaker and writer. He was born and brought up in a Maharashtrian family of Dinkar Patekar who owned a small textile printing business. He did his schooling from his own hometown – Murud Janjira a tourist place in Konkan and later headed to Mumbai to complete his graduation from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art. After completing his education, he headed to the film industry to make his career in acting starting with the Marathi movie Gaman n 1978. In fact, he started his career with Marathi films only.
Some of his early movies include Sinshasan, Bhalu, Raghu Maina, Savitri, Maaficha Sakshidar, etc, while he did his debut in Bollywood with the film- Aaj Ki Awaaz. Some of his earlier movies in Bollywood include Mohre, Pratighaat, Trishagni, Salaam Bombay, Parinda, Disha, Tiranga, Angaar, Hum Dono, Krantiveer, Agnisakshi, etc. Some of his known movies include Shakti, Aparahan, Taxi No 9211, Darna Mana Hai, Aanch, Angaar, etc. Some of his recent movies include Welcome Back, Police Officer, Paathshala, Tum Milo Toh Sahi, Deool, Ab Tak Chappan 2, Shargid, etc.
Apart from acting, he is also into direction and did his debut in this field with the film Prahaar: The Final Attack with Dimple Kapadia and Madhuri Dixit. He also did some playback singing with the film Yeshwant, Wajood and Aanch. Besides, he was also seen working with the cartoon series wherein he gave his voice for the character Sher Khan in the popular cartoon series called The Jungle Book, which was aired on Doordarshan way back on Sundays. As far as awards are concerned, he is not short of different titles as well, which even include Padma Shri the fourth highest civilian honor award in the country.
In 2013, he got this award on the 64th Republic Day, while he even bagged a couple of other awards, which include Filmfare Awards for different categories like Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and even best actor in negative role. He has played a wide range of characters, including the negative, main lead and supporting role. Some of the performance has given him awards like for Parinda he got National Award for the best supporting actor role in 1990, he then got another National award for Krantiveer and one for supporting role in Agni Sakshi in 1997. He got four Filmfare awards for the film Parinda, Angar, Kartinveer and Rajneeti, while two Screen Awards and one regional award.
