Anurag Basu is among the well-known director, actor and screenwriter of Bollywood who hails from Bengal. He was born in a prestigious family of an award winning theatrical artists. Since his childhood he was connected to theatre company of his father called ABhiyaan. He was born in Kolkata but was brought up in Billai wherein he did his schooling followed by Engineering from Jabalpur Engineering College. However, he left his engineering in the middle and headed to Bombay wherein he pursued his BSc in Physics and later went to FTII Pune to learn cinematography. He then assisted a number of directors for various movies and TV projects. Later, he turned out to be an assistant director to the known TV director called Raman Kumar for the movie called Tara. He is married and has two daughters.
Wiki : Anurag Basu Before entering into Bollywood, he worked in Television assisting Raman Kumar for the serial Tara wherein he remained there for 70 episodes. He then directed a couple of TV serials, which ranges from daily soaps to thrillers, which include Ajeeb Dastaan and Saturday Suspense. Some of his popular and successful projects include Koshish, Kyun Ki Saansh bhi kabhi bahu thi, Kasouti Zindagi Ki, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, etc. during the year 2001 to 2002. His TV serials including Miit and Manzillien Apni Apni, etc. also was successful to garner positive reviews. He awarded with RAPA (the Radio and TV Advertisers Practitioners Association) Award for the category of Best Director, while also hosted a couple of reality shows as well.
His Bollywood career started with the movie called Kucch To Hai, which was produced by Ekta Kapoor. He then joined Vishesh Films (Mahesh Bhatt’s production house) wherein he did Saaya. The movie failed but he got the chance to do Murder with Emraan Hashmi, which helped him to carve his niche in direction field and then did a number of movies including Gangster, Life in Metro, Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Kites, Barfi, etc. while his upcoming movie include Jagga Jasoos. His last movie Barfi was a big hit in India and abroad and was even presented in different film festival including Busan International Film Festival, Moroco Film Festival, etc. He is currently shooting for the thriller Jagga Jasoos with main leads as Ranbir Kapoor, Govinda and Katrina, which is scheduled to release next August. He was awarded for his direction for Barfi and other movies and for screenwriting as well.
