Donal Bisht: My choice of clothes is no one’s business

Donal Bisht
Donal Bisht recently opens up regarding her choice of clothes and reacts on getting trolled over social media for bikini pics. She says – My choice of clothes is no one’s business. And writing obscene comments on bikini pictures is nothing but a reflection of the pitiful mindset the trolls hold. Women should be allowed to wear what they want, and whatever they feel comfortable in, without being judged… And I’m not the first person on the planet who wore a bikini! Why make a big deal about it?”

Donal Bisht further adds – “My mother does get upset at times and even asks me to take down a particular picture after it gets ‘not-very-good’ comments. Given our profession, we know the reality, so we try to stay unbothered to an extent but there are people close to us, who aren’t part of the industry, who get really worried about these comments.”

Donal Bisht concludes by saying – “I try and focus on the brighter side of life always, scroll past any negative comments. It’s important to focus on feel-good content. But yes when things go overboard like it did this time I do feel the need of addressing it and put my point of view forward once and for all. Now if things still don’t work out I might consult the cyber crime cell. At the end of the day, if one hasn’t done anything wrong then it should not bother them anyway.”

Sara Ali

Sara Ali Khan recently talks about how passion stands. Talking about this, she shares her experience and says – “The truth is, of course there are physical restrictions, everybody has to sanitise regularly, get checks, wear masks, that’s the obvious answer. What I want to tell is that two days before the lockdown in March 2020, I was in Varanasi shooting with Aanand ji. Every moment of the lockdown, I was only praying to go back on set!”

Sara Ali Khan further says – “While of course there are physical changes, considering the times that we are in, the passion, positivity, enthusiasm with which my Director of Photography, actors, director, Ads, spotboys, all of are just back. Shiddat hai, longing thi. Maheenon ghar pe band reh kar. I think that doesn’t change that passion, which is the only thing which stands the test of Covid, big screen, small screen. It doesn’t matter beyond a point! We make movies to have fun.”

Sara Ali says – “It’s a tricky question to ask, because everything changes when you are an outsider versus when you are inside. You can’t compare. The one thing I will tell you is I am very lucky and privileged to be in this industry. I have even forgotten what it is like to not be a part of it, I don’t remember how I thought it used to be. I am privileged to be given this opportunity that’s all I know.”

Sara Ali concludes by saying – “Everything I do comes from my mother, whether it’s styling or films. I bounce everything to her, but the irony of that statement is she has told me ‘listen as your mother, I can tell you what I think, but ultimately the only thing you have to rely on is conviction. If you don’t feel it, don’t do it, whether it’s the colour of your nail paint, the shot you are giving or films. All has to come from an honest space, and that’s the mantra to life, I feel.”

Alaya F
Alaya F recently reveals – “I actually signed Anurag (Kashyap) sir’s film before I signed Jawaani Jaaneman. But it was long before he was going to shoot it and he told me, do whatever you want if something comes along please go for it.”

Talking about her working experience, Alaya F says – “For my first film, I never had a clear idea what I want to do, whether I want to do something commercial or a little more dark and alternative I had nothing specific. I was meeting a lot go directors and producers, whoever would want to meet me. I used to go with this little reel, so I used to compile all my videos from my acting class and I used to make it into a reel with background music and all, add effect and everything.”

According to Alaya F, she shares – she had gone to Anurag Kashyap too, to show him some of her videos, to know his honest opinion for her craft. Reluctant at first, the director tried to brush her off by saying he makes only Tedha films, which might not be the perfect fit for her. But when Anurag saw the 7-minute long video, he told Alaya that he has the right film for her. And this is how, he went from I don’t have films for you to I have the perfect film for Alaya. And all this happened before the actor had even made her debut!

Devoleena
Devoleena Bhattacharjee recently opens up about many things in an interview. Devoleena talks about if destiny plays important role or not and shares the excerpt from her experiences.

Devoleena says – “No doubt knowing people in the industry helps. You get to know about opportunities but what gets you work is your talent. Even these powerful people would work with you on the basis of your ability. There will be these groups and camps everywhere. It’s there in the television industry too. But you don’t have to be a part of them to function. So I don’t think being friends with the powerful or being part of certain groups gets you projects.”

Devoleena Bhattacharjee

She further explains and says – “If it’s in my destiny I’ll become the top in the game. But then we create our own destiny with our honest efforts. Having a certain number of social media followers also doesn’t help much in the long run. If you don’t have it or if you aren’t ready to hone it, you don’t go anywhere. I’m not trying to put anyone down, I’m just saying what I believe in. TV is one medium that offers equal opportunities to all.”

Talking about rejections made her stronger, Devoleena says – “It’s never easy and it shouldn’t be easy or else we won’t value what we get. Your journey defines you. TV gave me recognition and respect. At this point, I’ll not settle for a role that doesn’t match up to the kind of work I’ve done. Living up to my art and expectations of my fans are also my responsibility.”

She concludes by saying – “The one thing that I want to avoid is getting stereotyped. As an artiste I don’t want to restrict myself into doing only certain kind of characters. I want to surprise myself, do characters that I could never imagine I can pull off. My work should make me get up every morning and look forward to go to the sets.”

It is like any other home or situation, which I handle on my own. That’s the way I have been brought up. Deepika Padukone says – “Everybody talks about his energy but what most people don’t realize is that this is not who he is all the time. What attracted me to him was the fact is that we have been together for eight years and are still discovering each other. I think that is the beauty of our relationship. We started off not as lovers but close friends, who connected at some level, even though we are very different people. So, even today, I don’t think he knows everything about me, and I can’t say I know everything about him.”

On the work front, Ranveer and Deepika will be seen together in Kabir Khan’s sports drama 83, in which he will play former cricketer Kapil Dev, while she will play his wife Romi Bhatia.

So yeah, there was some bullying, it’s not fun.”

Talking about the negative effects of experiences, Sunny Leone says – “Some of that bullying has carried through my entire life which is not a great feeling. But I think, for those people out there. Bullying is like a circle, it goes around So usually when we see people who are bullied, they end up usually bullying somebody else. So, if you are being bullied maybe we can make a conscious effort to not bully and treat others maybe how we are being treated also taking a stand for yourself, usually, bullies are cowards.”

She adds – “And the second that you take a stand. Make your statement or tell someone to stop. That’s usually, sometimes it might work, I wouldn’t say that it would always work, because they don’t want to build false hope. But I think if you’re consistent, and you ask for help from people around you, then that cycle of abuse will stop.”

Talking about attending a catholic school, Sunny Leone says – “I went to Catholic school because the town I grew up in was really small and predominantly white. It was unsafe for little brown kids, or any ethnicity that wasn’t white, to go to public school. That’s just the way it was. My parents lied for our safety.”

Vicky Kaushal

Vicky Kaushal is raring to be back on set. Vicky Kaushal says – “This is my first superhero film… Shooting in this new normal comes with its own set of challenges; you’ve to test every single person, quarantine everybody, put them in bio-bubbles. Basically, there are several Covid protocols to follow, and everybody needs to be cautious.”

Talking about huge responsibility of production team, he says – “Ultimately, the responsibility falls on [the production team] to make it happen without any trouble. And that isn’t an easy job. But I think everybody is getting accustomed to it, trying their best to adapt. I hope by the time we start Ashwatthama, the pandemic will be much in control.”

Further having in conversation, theatre vs OTT, Vicky Kaushal states – “When it comes to theatre vs OTT, I think some films are made for the cinematic and community viewing experience, and there are others that are flexible in terms of mode of consumption. The year 2020 wasn’t much about choice. It was about the logistics of a film on the production level, depending on finances involved, etc. So eventually, it’s the producer’s prerogative and I’ll be happy with the decision they take.”

Vicky Kaushal concludes – “I think we should focus on how to become a better version of ourselves. That’s what my aim is with every project. I just want to do better than my last work, keep learning with every project. I believe competition and comparison aren’t in my hand, these are audiences’ prerogative. I’m trying to do good work and present it to the audience. So, if something isn’t in my control, I don’t take stress about it.”

Sunny Leone
Sunny Leone recently talks about doing intimate scenes in front of crew members. Sunny Leone says – “Bold roles or doing scenes that are intimate are a part of the profession. We all watched so many films and shows where intimacy is definitely a part of most unless you’re watching you know a Disney show. But that is definitely a part of most shows, and I think it’s about being professional, and doing your job and getting the work done and making sure that you feel comfortable, of course, everybody on set makes you feel comfortable and whoever is not needed on set obviously leaves.”

Talking about balancing personal and professional life, Sunny Leone says – “Having three children and working, the work schedules not easy at all. As they are getting older, it becomes even more difficult to leave because I think they’re fine, but I think I have more separation anxiety and I miss them more, maybe more than they miss me because they’re so busy playing and having fun usually if I am not home then. Daniel makes a point to try and be as home as much as possible. Luckily for us, our offices are across the street so he’s able to come back and forth.”

Sunny Leone further explains about the impact on her life. She says – “Because of the pandemic, we have become so attached to our children and our children have become so attached to us. It’s been difficult but we kind of have the schedule, pretty good right now where I either spend time with them in the mornings or in the evenings, but they definitely get their mommy time and I get my children.”

Rani Mukerji
Rani Mukerji says – “Cinema has the power to impact societal change and actors do have the power to talk to people and seed the thought of positive change through their choice of films. I have been fortunate as an artiste to get projects that had strong female protagonists and, to be honest, I have also consciously tried to seek out such projects.” It is given that cinema impacts society deeply and it has definitely tried to contribute towards projecting girls positively on screen.

She reveals that she do have the strategy to choose roles. Rani Mukerji says – “I wanted my body of work to loudly tell the world what my intent was with my brand of cinema, with my roles, and today, I’m happy that I chose well. I say this because I wanted to do my bit towards shifting society’s stereotyped gaze towards women.”

Rani

Rani Mukerji further elaborates – “Most of the characters that I have played like Rhea from Hum Tum, Shashi from Yuva, Roshni from Talaash, Suhani from Saathiya, Saamiya in Veer-Zaara, Michelle in Black, Meera in No One Killed Jessica, Shivani in Mardaani, Naina in Hichki and many more, have hopefully been instrumental in projecting women as strong, independent, forward-thinking individuals who aren’t afraid to follow their hearts and do the right thing.”

Rakul Preet states web has raised the approach to cinema

Rakul Preet

Rakul Preet Singh says – “Indian audience got exposed to a lot of regional and international content. That not just improved their taste but also pushed us to deliver better content in films, write better scripts, influenced how we approach a story. With the exploration of the web there is so much more content that’s being made. This has led to more opportunities for people to step into this industry so I think that’s the brightest side.”

Rakul Preet further adds – “There’s so much liberty that one can take in terms of storytelling, casting, presentation and all. It has raised the standards so high that people are now going to compare everything with everything they’ve seen during this time. So I think it’s a great time for the entertainment industry.”

Talking about characterisation, Rakul Preet elaborates – “For me, it’s about the existence of important roles for women. And I think such stories and characters are being created now. They were their earlier too and actors like [late] Meena Kumari ji, [late] Nargis ji and even Tabu, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor have done and are still doing such roles. Even see the films Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu and many others are doing. At the same time we also have to understand that there are a variety of films that are being made that focuses on different stories. But whatever it is, the story will always remain the hero.”

Rakul

Rakul Preet concludes by saying – “At the end the content needs to reach the audience. Of course we all love theatre and want it to be fully functional. I myself went to a theatre to watch Tenet. We need to start pushing that section of livelihood back again. That is an entirely different scheme of things… But we also want our projects to release, to offer the audience something new. So, some had to opt for a direct-to-OTT release. We’ve to co-exist and not disregard or push back anything to make something else flourish. We’ve to work hand-in-hand hoping that normalcy comes back soon.”

The journey into self is the most important thing right now and a sense of the collective responsibly we all share.”

I definitely want to watch myself on the big screen, but if we’ve to be practical, then yes, OTT platforms connect with people more,” she continues, “A lot of people who just want to watch something, anywhere, just have to pick up their phones. You can see rickshaw pullers around, anyone can watch them comfortably. Hence, they connect more. I do miss theatres, but this is the future. I’ve said it earlier, too.”

Plus, I don’t go on set and waste other people’s time saying ‘I don’t like this role’. I’ve to be sure, and need to be confident. Basically, when everything is taken care of- good people, actors, directors around you makes a lot of difference.”

Rajeev Khandelwal talks about his wife Manjiri and recalls the moment. Rajeev Khandelwal says – “Maybe after a few years of marriage. I realised when I spent time with her that she is the one for me. When you spend time with each other, you discover each other very well. Before marriage, you just know each other. You probably just put up the best picture of yourself. Because after you spend a couple of years with each other, is when you discover each other. And yes, after a couple of years into our marriage, I realised that she is the one for me.”

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal states – “She is a very positive person and that’s the one thing that I really like about her. Second, I think she lives in the moment. Third, she is super confident about herself. She is extremely secure and confident about herself. She is not insecure.”

Rajeev Khandelwal concludes by saying – “I have been part of projects where women really kind of like those projects. I mean, I get a lot of love and affection from women, which is not for me but the image that they have for me. So, for Manjiri to not be insecure and kind of be confident about herself, she must have not seen all of that because she is not in front of the press. And she doesn’t like doing that. She wants to live her life in her way and the best thing is that she is what she is. There’s not a bit of make-up in her personality.”
